Algeria continues to attract the interest of foreign operators thanks to the numerous opportunities offered in the agricultural sector and the facilities put in place by the State to encourage investment. Russian operators have expressed their desire to carry out projects in the agricultural sector, particularly in the south of the country, where natural resources and climatic conditions lend themselves favorably to this type of activity.
It is in this context that the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Yacine Oualid, received Tuesday, at the ministry’s headquarters, Stefan Duerr, founder and president of the Russian group EkoNiva, in the presence of the head of agricultural affairs at the Russian embassy in Algeria and the vice-president of the Council for Algerian Economic Renewal (CREA). This was stated yesterday in a press release from the ministry.
This meeting allowed the Russian partner to learn more about the business climate in Algeria in general, and about the reforms undertaken to facilitate foreign investments. Russian representatives inquired about possibilities for cooperation in the agricultural sector, particularly in southern Algeria.
In the same dynamic, Yacine Oualid also received a delegation from the Chinese public company XPCC (Production and Construction), reporting to the province of Xinjiang, led by Zhang Winsheng, member of the Chinese Communist Party committee and deputy political commissioner of the company. The two parties praised the exemplary nature of the relations of friendship and cooperation between Algeria and China, while reaffirming their desire to strengthen them in several areas, notably that of modern agriculture.
The minister highlighted Algeria’s interest in the Chinese model and its ambition to draw inspiration from Chinese experience in the use of advanced agricultural technologies, such as reforestation, the fight against desertification, the development of seeds adapted to an arid climate and intelligent irrigation.
The exchanges also made it possible to propose the creation of cooperation and partnership mechanisms between the scientific research institutions of the two countries and invite Chinese companies to invest in Algeria, in order to benefit from the advantages offered to foreign investors and the strategic positioning of the country on international markets.
