Russians concentrate forces for breakthrough near Bakhmut but we disrupt these plans – Ukraine’s Defence Minister

Rustem Umierov, the Minister of Defence of Ukraine, has visited combat units in Donbas and stated that the Russians are concentrating their forces for the breakthrough to the west of the city of Bakhmut but the Defence Forces of Ukraine efficiently disrupt these plans.

Details: Umierov reported that he handed the soldiers bonuses from the government and ministerial awards – for showing courage and resilience in combat against the Russians that outnumber Ukrainian forces.

Background:

• On 13 April Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that the situation on the eastern fronts had escalated significantly in recent days due to Russia’s significant intensification of offensive operations after the presidential election.
• Syrskyi said that Russia was concentrating efforts to break through the Ukrainian defences west of Bakhmut, seize the settlement of Chasiv Yar and create conditions for further advancement to the Kramatorsk agglomeration.
• On April 14, President  of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on the aggravation of the situation in the combat zone, especially on the Donetsk front, over the past few days.
