The Algerian selections (boys and girls) of tennis completed their participation in African school games, closed Monday at the Bachdjarah (Algiers) Tennis Club, with a harvest of seven medals (three money and four bronze).
One of the three silver medals was gleaned by Kamyl Chebboub, in the simple (boys), after his defeat in the final in front of the Tunisian Mahmoud Chetouane: 2-6, 6-1, 3-6.
“I gave everything during this final with the hope of winning the gold medal, unfortunately, it did not work. I did not manage the first set well, and even if I came back in the second, my opponent managed to win in the 3rd set, which was decisive in the final outcome of this match. I thank the technical staff and the public present for their support, ”said Chebboub to the APS.
His compatriot Yacine Meghari, meanwhile, won the bronze medal, after his victory against the other Algerian, Fares Belamiri (6-3.6-2) in a classification match for third place.
Among the girls, the second bronze medal was won by Houda Benamar, victorious of the ranking match against his compatriot Kawther Abidet (7-5, 3-0 abandonment).
The gold medal was won by Tunisian Lamiss Haouas after the injury withdrawal from her compatriot Nadine Hamrouni from the first game in the final.
“I would have liked to play the final, but it’s a shame that Nadine had a little injury. I wish him a speedy recovery.
Regarding the competition, I believe that the technical level has been average since its start. I thank Algeria for this organization, ”Haouas told APS.
The other four medals (2 silver and 2 bronze) were obtained on Sunday in double.
The first silver medal was picked up in double (boys), by the Kamyl tandem Chebboub-Yacine Meghari, beaten in the final by the Tunisians Mahmoud Chetouane and Aziz Missaoui (4-6, 3-6).
Their compatriots Nacer Ghouli and Fares Belamiri won bronze, winning against the Congolese Engunga and Kumase (6-3, 6-4).
Among the girls, the Algerian women Kawther Abidat and Houda Benamar, also won the money, after their defeat in the final in front of the Tunisian women Lamiss Haouas and Nadine Hamrouni (4-6, 1-6).
The bronze medal was won by the Algerian pair made up of Lydia Arezki and Nora Iachouren, victorious of Kawira Kawira Peter Nancy and Seline Ahoya (6-2, 6-2).
The tennis events (single and double) began Thursday at the Bachdjarah Tennis Club, in the presence of 44 athletes, including 21 girls.
In addition to Algeria (host countries), 14 nations have taken part in this continental meeting: Benin, Botswana, Zambia, Comoros, RD Congo, Djibouti, Guinea-Equatorial, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Mauritania, Sudan, Tunisia, and Uganda.
