Yesterday, on the second day of the international seminar on the Algerian Revolution in its African dimension entitled “Algeria and Africa… a common memory, a common fate and a promising future”, participants highlighted Algeria’s unwavering support for the liberation movements, stressing that the Algerian Revolution had been a source of inspiration for African peoples. Speaking at the seminar, the member of the International Association of Friends of the Algerian Revolution (Aiara), Alexandre Kapenda (Angola), highlighted Algeria’s “effective, tangible and concrete” commitment to the liberation movements on the African continent, recalling the support provided by Algeria to his country in terms of training and education. For her part, Mrs. Ratsiraka Annick Zoary (Madagascar) spoke of the “privileged” relations between her country and Algeria, which has provided, she said, “great support” to Madagascar, emphasizing the diplomatic interaction between the two countries on issues of common interest, particularly development.
The Algerian Revolution was a source of inspiration for all the peoples of the continent, said Ms. Ratsiraka, daughter of the former President of Madagascar, Didier Ratsiraka.
According to her, today’s complex challenges require countries and peoples of the continent to build on common history and strengthen solidarity to move forward towards a bright future. She further called for laying the foundations for South-South cooperation and developing relations among African countries to find solutions to the various problems, especially since the continent, she said, has enormous resources and reserves of raw materials that must be transformed and not just exported.
On the political level, she stressed the imperative of continuing the struggle to liberate all the peoples of the continent and complete the independence of Africa, in accordance with its principles and ideals and far from external dictates.
Speaking on this occasion, the researcher specializing in African studies, Abed Sofiane, stressed that “Algeria has never ceased to support the liberation movements.” Algeria welcomed the pioneers of the liberation movements on its soil and its support was not limited to the military aspect, but also covered the political, economic and cultural fields, he noted. For her part, Fadila Allaoui, lecturer at the University of Algiers 2, discussed the role of the religious referent across Africa in the dissemination of the principles of liberation. For his part, the director of the Laboratory of Geopolitical Studies and Analysis in the Mediterranean, Mohamed Khodja, returned to the postcolonial period and its impact on African societies.
The day before, Tuesday, participants in the international seminar on the African dimension of the Algerian Revolution unanimously agreed that the unification of Africa and the decolonization of Western Sahara, the last colony on the continent, is the key to economic integration and the construction of a secure and prosperous continent.
During the opening session of this international meeting, they pleaded at length for the end of the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara and the liberation of Palestine from Zionist occupation, highlighting Algeria’s role in supporting liberation movements and the African dimension of its Revolution, which was a source of inspiration for African peoples, recalling that Algeria has never failed to support the just causes of Africa and its legitimate aspirations for a better tomorrow. In a speech delivered at the opening of the Seminar, the Minister of Mujahideen and Rights Holders, Mr. Laid Rebiga declared that “the independence of Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa, will remain a debt for every African faithful to the message of the continent’s leaders such as Ahmed Ben Bella, Nelson Mandela, Nkrumah Kwame, Patrice Lumumba and Amilcar Cabral, to name but a few.” On this occasion, the Minister praised Africa’s position in favor of the just cause of the Palestinian people and their legitimate right to the establishment of their independent state with El Quds as its capital. The international seminar was to be concluded with a final declaration and recommendations on the conclusions of the participants in this event.
