Tebboune lays the first stone

New 500-bed university hospital center (CHU)

The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, proceeded, during his working and inspection visit that he made yesterday Wednesday in Tizi Ouzou, to the launch of the works of the new 500-bed University Hospital Center (CHU). A project approved on June 23, during the Council of Ministers chaired by the Head of State. During which (Council of Ministers, editor’s note), indicated a press release from the Council of Ministers, Abdelmadjd Tebboune gave his approval to conclude a private contract between the “Cosider” group and the Ministry of Housing, for the launch of the works of construction of a University Hospital Center (CHU) in Tizi-Ouzou.

Planned on a site of 18.5 ha, this project which saw the light of day in 2014 during the presentation of its model at the level of the wilaya on May 24 of that year, before it fell under the frost like many structuring projects across the country due to proven financial constraints, includes, in addition to the CHU, a kidney hospital, a mother-child hospital and of course a faculty of medicine to replace the existing one at the university campus of Hasnaoua which had become dilapidated.

This structuring project, to quote the local director of Health, Farid Selmi, who spoke on the TV channel Echourouq, will strengthen the wilaya’s fleet, which is already very large. With a capacity of 500 beds, this new university hospital will house all medical specialties including new ones considered “innovative” by the health director of the wilaya of Tizi Ouzou which already has a university hospital center (CHU) Nédir Mohamed, with 2 hospital units (City center and Belloua) with 1,099 beds and 4 specialized hospital establishments (EHS) for a total capacity of 632 beds namely in cardiology, in gynecology-obstetrics, in psychiatry and an anti-cancer center (CAC), of 8 public hospital establishments (EPH) located in the capital of as many daïras for a total hospitalization capacity of 3,011 beds while obviously waiting for the end of the works of three other EPH of 60 beds each.

The same Health sector also has 8 health sectors (EPSP) that manage 61 Polyclinics with 18 maternity wards for 123 beds, 30 emergency medical and surgical services (UMC) with 220 observation beds, 321 treatment rooms, a blood transfusion center (CTS), a poison control center and a center for the fight against addictions (CERTA). The sector also develops a dialysis activity through 8 hemodialysis centers for 134 generators.
