The President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defense, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, chaired, Thursday at the People’s Palace in Algiers, the ceremony of awarding ranks and medals to a number of general officers and senior officers, on the eve of the commemorative festivities of the 62nd anniversary of independence and the recovery of national sovereignty, the Ministry of National Defense said in a statement.
“The President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defense, chaired, this Thursday, July 4, 2024, at the People’s Palace, the ceremony of awarding ranks and medals to a number of general officers and senior officers, on the eve of the commemorative festivities of the 62nd anniversary of independence and the recovery of national sovereignty,” the same source said.
At the start of this ceremony, the Army General, Chief of Staff of the National People’s Army (ANP), Saïd Chanegriha, delivered a speech in which he first of all “expressed his warm thanks to the President of the Republic for having personally presided over this ceremony which constitutes an opportunity to honor the executives of the Ministry of National Defense, for the efforts deployed, with responsibility and skill, in the accomplishment of their missions.”
“First of all, it is a pleasure for me to express, on my own behalf and on behalf of all the personnel of the ANP, my sincere thanks and my deep gratitude to Mr. President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defense, for having personally presided over the ceremony of awarding ranks and medals to the officers of the National People’s Army,” said the Army General.
“This ceremony takes place at the heart of the celebration of one of the key dates of our illustrious history, namely the 62nd anniversary of the National Independence Day which engraves in our minds the meaning of victory, the permanent determination to defend our country and its sovereign decision and to work for its development, for the unity of its people and its civilizational renewal, and which also instills in us feelings of pride towards our glories and the heroes of the first generation of the eternal November,” he added.
“Through this occasion, dear to the hearts of loyal patriots, we also fulfill the duty of gratitude, loyalty and recognition to the heroes of Algeria who preserved the legacy, and we renew the oath we made before the martyrs of the valiant popular resistance and the glorious National Liberation Revolution, who sacrificed themselves for independence and the recovery of national sovereignty, as well as the martyrs of national duty, who thwarted the dark project of barbaric terrorism and preserved the republican character of the State and its democratic regime,” he said.
“Coming to this traditional ceremony of awarding ranks and medals to officers of our Armed Forces and to assimilated civilian personnel, coinciding with this glorious national holiday, it is a testimony of consideration and recognition for the efforts made, with responsibility and skill, by these executives, men and women, in the accomplishment of the assigned missions, in particular those of them deployed all along the borders of our dear country,” he continued.
The Army General stressed that “the permanent support provided by the President of the Republic to the military institution can only strengthen the determination of its executives and personnel to continue the process of development and modernization of the defense apparatus.”
“I am fully convinced that your high supervision of this ceremony and the support that you continue to provide to the military institution will have a great impact on the morale of our personnel, all categories combined, and will push them to hasten and accelerate the pace to win the challenge of developing our Armed Forces, to raise their combat capabilities and their level of preparation to the height of the nobility of its national and constitutional missions,” he said.
“The awarding of ranks and medals to a number of officers, non-commissioned officers and civilian personnel, on this glorious national occasion, is highly symbolic and constitutes a commendable tradition, which anchors the customs of our dear homeland and our military institution. It also constitutes a renewed opportunity through which the executives of the National People’s Army and its personnel reap the fruits of their work through promotion in rank and decoration with medals, as recognition of their efforts and in consideration of their perseverance in the service of our authentic army and our dear Homeland,” he noted.
“Finally, and on behalf of Mr. President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defense, I would like to renew my warm congratulations to all those who have been promoted to higher ranks and decorated with medals,” he said.
Subsequently, the President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defense decorated Army General Said Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the ANP with the Medal of Bravery of the National People’s Army, before proceeding, in the company of the Army General and the Commander of the Republican Guard, to the presentation of ranks and medals to a number of general officers, senior officers and similar civilian personnel, the press release concludes.
