The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the British ambassador in Tehran after a protester in London removed the Iranian flag from the Iranian Embassy and replaced it with a monarchist flag during protests on January 10.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqhchi:

“We requested that the UK not interfere in Iran’s internal affairs. Britain is legally obligated under its international commitments to ensure the security and safety of the Iranian Embassy and Consulate in London. If London is unable to protect the two Iranian diplomatic missions, we will be forced to consider evacuating our staff from them.”

The British Foreign Office has summoned the Iranian ambassador in London:

“We will not tolerate any threats backed by Iran on British soil. We will pass legislation to impose further sanctions on Iranian industries linked to the nuclear program,” British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said.
