🇨🇴🤝🇶🇦 — The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, has turned to the
Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to
mediate the ongoing tensions with the government of Donald Trump in the United States.
🇺🇸 Petro met with Al Thani in Doha and, through social media, described the meeting as an attempt to “de-escalate the conflict” with Washington
🇨🇴 During his visit, Petro also discussed domestic issues, including peace negotiations with the Gulf Clan — the country’s largest criminal organization — and with the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla group.
💬 Qatar has served as an intermediary between the Colombian government and armed groups since September, when both sides signed in Doha a “confidence-building” agreement aimed at replacing illicit crops in areas controlled by drug traffickers. Petro and the Emir maintain frequent contact — this was their fourth meeting since the beginning of the year.
