The Algerian Yacine Hamza distinguished himself once again in this 24th edition of the Cycling Tour of Algeria (TAC 2024) by winning the 8th stage, contested this Sunday between Constantine and Skikda.
After Sidi Bel-Abbès (1st stage) and Sétif (6th stage), the member of the Algerian team Madar Pro Team signs his 3rd victory in this Tour, the 6th for an Algerian rider.
Wearing his green jersey, the best sprinter, Hamza resisted the charge of his competitors until the end, to win in the sprint after completing the 117.4 km in 2h26:55. The most prominent Algerian in this Tour beat the Canadian, David Drouin (Euro Cycling Team) and his compatriot Youcef Reguigui (Terengganu – Malaysia) to the finish line.
Thanks to this new victory, Hamza keeps his green jersey and also gets the blue (stage winner) and the red (best Algerian).
It’s the status quo
For the 3rd stage in a row, things are not changing in the general classification. Indeed, the Eritrean, Hagos Meron Teshome managed to keep his yellow leader’s jersey and is still 30 seconds ahead of the Algerian, Nassim Saïdi (Madar Pro Cycling Team) and 38 seconds over the Dutchman, Lars Quaedvlieg ( Universe Cycling Team). No change also for the holders of the white (best youngster) and polka dot (best climber) jerseys which remain on the shoulders of the Eritreans, Maekele Milkiyas (EN Eritrea) and Awet Aman (World Cycling Center Africa).
As for the orange jersey, awarded to the most combative cyclist, it went to the German, Marcel Peschges (Embrace The World).
The little Algerian queen will continue her journey to the east of the country and will meet with the 9th and penultimate stage. A race which will see the tour caravan set off from Skikda to reach Annaba on a route of 126.5 km.n
