Three people placed in pre -trial detention for speculation on tires

Three people were arrested and placed in pre -trial detention, as part of the investigations carried out on the shortage and the rise in prices of certain tire models on the Algerian market. According to press releases published this Tuesday, September 2 by the prosecution of Tiaret and Oum El-Bouaghi, two people were arrested in Tiaret and another in Oum El-Bouaghi as part of the operation to combat speculation launched at the end of August by the Ministry of Interior Commerce and regulation of the national market. In Tiaret, the judicial police seized 525 tires stored in unconcluded hangars to the authorities. Two suspects were arrested on August 31 and presented in direct appearance for “illegal speculation”. They were placed under a deposit warrant and their trial is scheduled for September 9. In Oum El-Bouaghi, a similar operation made it possible to discover 304 illegally stored tires. The 49 -year -old merchant owner of the deposit was arrested. Presented before the prosecution in immediate appearance, it was also placed under a warrant. His trial will take place on September 9.
The national tire market has been experiencing, since the summer of 2024, a sharp increase in prices deemed unjustified. This situation encouraged speculation.
