Three candidates for the presidential election of September 7 have been selected by the National Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE). This is a preliminary list while waiting, of course, for the Constitutional Court to definitively validate the list of candidates, in particular after studying the appeals of those who were not selected. This was indicated by the president of ANIE, Mohamed Charfi, during a press conference.
The successful candidates are the outgoing President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the president of the Movement of Society for Peace (MSP), Abdelali Hassani Cherif, and the first national secretary of the Front of Socialist Forces (FFS), Youcef Aouchiche. Their files were validated by the ANIE. According to Charfi, Hassani Cherif filed 87,586 voter signatures, spread over 50 wilayas, of which 79,782 were accepted, as well as 2,021 sponsorships of elected officials, of which 1,986 were validated. For his part, Aouchiche filed 1,257 sponsorships of elected officials, spread over 31 wilayas, of which 1,250 were validated. Furthermore, Abdelmadjid Tebboune submitted 482,533 signatures from voters spread across 58 wilayas and abroad, of which 416,320 were validated.
Mohamed Charfi said he had supervised the transfer of the candidacy declaration files to the headquarters of the Constitutional Court, stressing that the processing of the candidacy declaration files and the individual signature subscription forms, filed by the sixteen candidates for the presidential election of September 7, was carried out “in the most complete transparency and with professionalism within the legal deadlines.”
The ANIE ruled on the files submitted by 16 candidates for the next presidential election, who were informed of the decisions taken to allow those whose applications were accepted to prepare for the electoral campaign and those whose applications were rejected to file an appeal with the Constitutional Court, according to Charfi.
He also stressed that “the transfer of the candidacy declaration files and the individual signature subscription forms to the headquarters of the Constitutional Court marks the completion of a stage of the electoral process”, specifying that the authority had “taken organizational measures to facilitate the work of the Constitutional Court in processing the files that will be submitted to it”.
And to recall, on this occasion, that “the transfer of files and subscription forms for individual signatures from the ANIE headquarters to the Constitutional Court is carried out in accordance with legal provisions, the convoy being secured by the various security forces and State services.”
