Ukraine has advanced as far as 35 km inside Russia, employing hit-and-run tactics that bypass Russian defenses, strike Russian units from the rear where they are most vulnerable, and then withdraw before the Russians can mount a consolidated response.

An earlier version of this tactic, but the same principle, proved highly successful for Ukrainians in the early stages of the war during the battles of Kyiv and Kharkiv, allowing Ukraine to recapture large areas of occupied territory.

However, the ISW reports that this tactic is used only in the farthest areas. Elsewhere, closer to the Ukrainian border, there are reports that Ukrainian troops are digging in.

The size of the Ukrainian force is unknown but Russian channel show videos of U.S. supplied Bradleys and other heavy armored vehicles and tanks. There are rumors, among Ukrainians from the border regions, that the size could be much larger than is currently believed.

Surprisingly, Russia has not yet responded with any large scale missile attack on civilian cities in Ukraine.

There is a sense of moral boost among Ukrainians, but people are worried about Ukrainian casualties and whether Russia will be able to recapture the territory and how soon.

The level of operational security continues to be u precedent high. No one knows much about the operation except those directly involved, and those involved are keeping quiet.

I am very proud of this change. It means Ukraine’s military and politicians become more professional
