The African Startup Conference embodies the continent’s determination to build a future driven by its youth, a future based on creativity, technological sovereignty and sustainable development. Since its first edition in December 2022, the African Start-up Conference has brought together Governments, policy makers, investors, start-ups, incubators, the African diaspora and other relevant stakeholders to coordinate their efforts and design a robust, inclusive and interconnected start-up ecosystem.
The African Start-up Conference envisions an Africa that leads through innovation, a continent where start-ups thrive, create jobs, drive economic resilience and shape the technologies of tomorrow. Its objective is to give African Start-ups the means to become regional and global champions, strengthen continental cooperation and promote shared prosperity based on knowledge, creativity and inclusion. Through policy dialogue, strategic partnerships and capacity building, the African Start-up Conference aims to make innovation a cornerstone of Africa’s sustainable growth, while ensuring that young Africans have the tools, networks and opportunities to compete globally. Since its inception, the African Start-ups Conference has evolved from a bold initiative into a continental movement shaping the future of innovation policy in Africa.
The first edition, with the ministerial summit, laid the foundations for cooperation with the Algiers Declaration on the Development of Start-ups, subsequently approved by the African Union. The 2023 edition
-”From ideas to impact” – enabled the adoption of the African Charter for Talent Retention and launch of AFBAN, consolidating the institutional structure of the conference with a permanent Secretariat. The 2024 edition – ”Reinventing Africa with AI” – focused on AI as a driver of transformation, which was expected to result in the adoption of a continental AI policy framework and action plan. 2025 – “Building African Champions” – is much more than just an international conference, ASC 2025 connects ecosystems across borders and catalyzes dialogue between policymakers, investors and entrepreneurs to accelerate Africa’s technological and economic sovereignty. The African Start-ups Conference is not just a gathering, it is a call to action.
