Un signal politique Le Royaume-Uni s’apprête à reconnaître l’État palestinien ce dimanche

A political signal The United Kingdom is preparing to recognize the Palestinian state this Sunday

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is due to announce, this Sunday, September 21, the official recognition of the Palestinian state. He believes that the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the expansion of Israeli colonies in the West Bank make any solution to two states. This decision comes despite the pressures of Washington, criticisms of the conservative opposition and the appeal of hostage families held by Hamas. Currently, 147 of the 193 UN member states already recognize Palestine. In London, this gesture marks a major diplomatic turning point. The Labor Government says that it is not a concession to Hamas, but a political signal to relaunch a crazy peace process. Keir Starmer highlights the urgency of a truce and the opening of humanitarian corridors, while the Israeli bombings on Gaza continue to make victims. On the international level, this announcement isolates a little more the government of Benyamin Netanyahu, already under the fire of criticism for his refusal of a cease-fire. It also increases the pressure on European countries still reluctant to take this step.
This recognition constitutes a real setback for Israel. After months of a war described as genocide crime by several UN experts and authorities, the Hebrew state sees its crushing strategy fails. His choice of violence and the siege turns into political and moral defeat: far from making the Palestinian cause disappear, he replaced it in the center of the international agenda.
