A strategic turning point in the country’s health security process
300% increase in the supply rate of hospitals with locally produced medication
The Director General of the Central Pharmacy of Hospitals (PCH), Sabri Djeroud spoke, in a declaration to the APS, the increase of 300 % of the supply rate of hospitals with locally produced medication. It is, he said, a strategic turning point in the country’s health security process. Note that this orientation has not only helped to reduce the import bill, but also made it possible to guarantee the availability of high -quality drugs delivered to hospitals in a record time and at low prices, in addition to reducing costly patient transfers abroad.
Local production in this area, he said, has expanded to include sensitive categories, such as certain anti-cancer drugs, innovative (immunological and hormonal drugs) and drugs for rare diseases. Specifying, with regard to the treatment of cancer, that the number of drugs produced locally went from 33 in 2023 to 52 in 2025. This constitutes, he said, significant support for the financial envelope allocated to this category, especially since innovative drugs represent 66% of the overall budget devoted to cancer treatment.
Before note that the overall financial envelope allocated to the treatment of cancers increased by 400% in the same period. What translates, added this manager, the State’s commitment to ensure modern treatment for these patients.
Regarding rare diseases, Sabri Djeroud revealed that the budget, the biggest in the history of the PCH, amounting to 40 billion DA, was allocated, in parallel with the update of the list of drugs and therapeutic protocols, in order to ensure effective and rapid treatments for this category.
“The availability of innovative drugs will help reduce the length of hospitalization, reduce complications and increase the chances of healing,” he noted, not without reassuring patients with regard to the availability of drugs.
Affirming that the coverage rate is still 90%above, even in the event of cyclical pressures which do not reach the level of the shortage, the same official indicated that coordination with the various players in the drug market has made it possible, in the last 12 months, to increase the rhythm of distribution to 39%. Upon observing that the central stock should reach 44% at the end of the current year, in parallel with the widening of the basic infrastructure reserved for storage, the area of which will go from 55,000 to 78,000 m2.
Finally, the CEO of the PCH has, within the framework of the fight against bureaucracy and for the acceleration of the response, recalled the launch of a national platform dedicated to the day before and the alert which will make it possible to deal with 85% of the reports in less than 24 hours, after the operation had previously known slowness in procedures, in addition sanitary facilities.
