A new political alliance in search of consensus
FLN, RND, El Bina and El Moustakbal
In a context characterized by the approach of the early presidential election of September 7, 2024, Algerian political life is experiencing renewed activity. Four political groups, the best represented within the National People’s Assembly (APN), namely the National Liberation Front (FLN), the National Democratic Rally (RND), and with them the El Bina Movement and the El Front Moustakbal, announce the formation of a political alliance to achieve a national consensus and build a strong Algeria.
It was at the FLN headquarters in Algiers that the leaders of the four parties, Abdelkrim Benmbarek, Mustapha Yahi, Abdelkader Bengrina and Fateh Boutbig, decided to consult on this objective. For Benmbarek this meeting is the space for concluding a political alliance between groups which share in common clear ambitions consisting of the objective of achieving a national consensus to protect the interests of the people and support all the approaches participating in the building a strong Algeria.
Alliance objectives and vision
The FLN, leader of this alliance, is working to establish links with other parties present on the political spectrum, in particular at the level of the two houses of Parliament and the local wilaya and municipal assemblies. Its program drawing its material from the principles of November 1, 1954 for the construction of a democratic, popular and social state, within the framework of the Muslim faith, the FLN would like to bring together other groups to contribute together to the construction of an Algeria strong, based on respect for the constants, values and glorious history of the nation.
Highlighting the need to strengthen the country’s domestic front in an international and regional crisis, the leaders of the parties of the new alliance recalled the desires of certain parties which aim to weaken the voice of Algeria on the scene. international, this voice which speaks loudly in the Security Council and the General Assembly of the United Nations in favor of the oppressed and the peoples still under the colonial yoke, in Palestine and Western Sahara.
To mark its strategic and politically structuring character, the SG of the FLN made it clear that the new alliance is not cyclical or opportune and only linked to the presidential election.
For Benmbarek, this alliance is, on the contrary, intended to extend beyond the presidential election, in order to act actively, as a major political actor called upon to position itself in the political, legal and socio-economic fields.
The alliance, the SG of the FLN will inform, is not a closed club, but on the contrary an open space which does not exclude; its approach, it is explained, is intended to complement those of other political groups and other social components.
Addressing the issue of the major electoral deadline which is looming on the horizon of September 7, 2024, the secretary general of the RND, Mustapha Yahi, for his part, affirmed that the alliance will propose a consensual candidate meeting the required conditions, notably the ability to preserve the gains made since 2019 and to continue reforms to achieve the objectives set.
Ready for the presidential election
This alliance will work, continues the first man of the RND, to make this coalition a solid basis for proposing initiatives and submitting proposals aimed at contributing to socio-economic development and intensifying contacts during the next stage.
The alliance also plans to develop a charter of ethics focused on the moralization of political action as part of a common approach aimed at building a rule of law.
A joint commission between the parties concerned was set up to support government action, debate all issues related to this alliance and choose an appropriate slogan.
Encounter
with the President
Before holding this constitutive meeting, the four groups met the President of the Republic at the International Conference Center (CIC) Abdelatif-Rahal with 23 other leaders of political parties represented in the elected national and local Assemblies.
Now a tradition as part of the President’s desire to establish dialogue and consultation with the political class, this meeting was an opportunity to hear the President on numerous current national, regional and international issues.
“A frank and constructive dialogue”
This is how Louisa Hanoune, of the Workers’ Party, underlined the importance of the upcoming reforms.
The Secretary General of the FLN, for his part, welcomed “the path of dialogue and consultation” taken by the President of the Republic.
Also satisfied was Fateh Boutbig, president of the El Moustakbal Front, who was delighted with “the open and constructive nature” of this meeting which, according to him, made it possible to take stock of the challenges facing Algeria. The New Algeria Front (FAN), through its president, Djamel Benabdeslam, insisted on the need to continue the development process in all sectors and to maintain the stability of the country.
