“An Algerian skill will be at the head of the technical bar”

,The sports director of ES Setif (Algerian Football League 1) Abdelkrim Bira, announced on Wednesday the upcoming arrival of an “Algerian competence” at the head of the technical bar, replacing the Tunisian technician Ammar Souayah, whose contract has not been extended. “The future coach of the team is an Algerian competence with an expanded staff. We will reveal his identity at the beginning of next July,” he announced during a press briefing held in Setif. Ammar Souayah (67 years old) had joined the Entente last February, for a contract until June 30, replacing the French Franck Dumas, dismissed.
Under the leadership of the Tunisian technician, the ESS failed to qualify for a continental competition, ending the 2023-2024 season in 5th place in the standings with 48 points, five lengths from the podium.
Regarding the recruitment aspect, Bira, who also serves as general manager and spokesperson for the club, revealed that the club “has so far finalized the arrival of five new recruits, who will be presented after the official opening of the transfer market. Three foreign players will be hired. The recruitment will obviously be done in consultation with the coach.”
And he continued: “Our goal is to allow ESS to regain its former glory. We have the ambition to form a team composed of 50% players trained at the club.”
Speaking about the preparations for the next 2024-2025 season, Bira stressed that the team “will prepare first in Tikjda, before carrying out two training camps abroad in Tunisia and Italy, with six friendly matches on the menu.” Abdelkrim Bira had been appointed last May as general manager, sporting director, and spokesperson for the club, by the Sonelgaz group, owner of ES Sétif.n
