Said Chanegriha with Shugaev Dimitry.
Algeria and Russia reaffirmed, this Tuesday, their common desire to strengthen and diversify their military cooperation. The army general Said Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense and chief of staff of the National People’s Army (ANP), received, at the headquarters of the ANP staff, the director of the Federal Service for the Military and Technical Cooperation of the Russian Federation, Shugaev Dimitry, at the head of an important delegation. This was indicated by a press release from the Ministry of National Defense (MDN).
This hearing has seen the participation of generals-major and senior officials of the ANP and the ministry, alongside the members of the Russian delegation. The discussions focused on the current state of bilateral military cooperation and the prospects of its enlargement, while addressing regional and international files of common interest.
From the start of his speech, General Chanegriha wanted to welcome his hosts, qualifying this visit as an additional step in the process of consolidating historical relations between our two countries in general, and between our respective military institutions in particular “. He insisted on the renewed dynamics which have marked in recent years the Algerian-Russian military exchanges, citing the “recent high-level visits” which, according to him, “allowed to expand the prospects for bilateral partnership”.
Military cooperation between Algeria and Russia is not new. Heir to a long tradition dating back to the independence of Algeria, she consolidated herself over the decades through the acquisition of equipment, training and exchange of expertise. The General of the Army also wanted to replace this meeting in this context, by emphasizing the will of Algeria to diversify its partnerships while relying on solid alliances.
“Algeria seeks to establish multiple and diversified partnerships with friendly countries,” said Chanegriha, recalling that this approach is part of the principles of national foreign policy, based on “respect for international law and the diligent research of peaceful solutions to conflicts”.
In addition, the chief of staff also mentioned the global geopolitical context marked by multiple tensions. “In this complex global context and this unstable regional situation, Algeria is working to develop networks of relations bringing together the quest for solutions based on the dialogue and promotion of the imperatives of sustainable development, with a view to building a common future based on solidarity and respect for the sovereignty of states,” he said.
The meeting was also an opportunity for both parties to exchange analyzes and points of view on major international security issues, thus strengthening strategic dialogue. The symbolic component was not forgotten: at the end of the discussions, the two delegations carried out an exchange of gifts, a gesture which illustrates the depth of the bonds of friendship between Algiers and Moscow.
