Une exposition raconte l’histoire de la Palestine

An exhibition tells the history of Palestine

National Archives of Chile

Palestine is in the spotlight at the National Archives of Chile. Entitled “From all rivers to all seas”, the exhibition tells in images the history of the Palestinian territories.
The exhibition was inaugurated on Wednesday in Santiago in the Chilean capital. This work aims to make the voice of the Palestinian people heard. The exhibition features a range of 130 works of art, from photographs and embroidery to murals, album covers and posters. It also includes historical documents. Among all these elements, watermelons take center stage.
Chile plays an important role in Latin America, being recognized as a democracy and a member of the OECD, which gives it an influential international image. The fact that this exhibition is held in Chile and reflects the history of the struggle of the Palestinian people as well as international solidarity is a strong political signal to the world: from Chile, we say that genocide is enough.
Let’s rediscover the tradition of international solidarity with Palestine and transform it into concrete actions, explains Pablo Abufom, curator of the exhibition.
Following the ban on using the symbols of the Palestinian flag, the watermelon emerges as a symbol of resistance in several works presented. For Javier Manzi, curator of the exhibition, the objective is not only to tell history, but also to reflect the present.
This exhibition does not come after the events, it takes place while this genocide is happening every day. We do not want it to be a place where we observe the works from afar, but rather for them to be used as tools for future mobilization, insisted Javiera Manzi, curator of the exhibition.* Chile has the largest Palestinian community outside the Middle East, with approximately 500,000 people of Palestinian origin. In 2011, this South American country recognized Palestine as a free, independent and sovereign state.
