Cooperation between Algeria and Vietnam is expected to be further strengthened thanks to the 13th session of the Algerian-Vietnamese joint commission for economic, scientific and technical cooperation, whose work began yesterday, Sunday, in Algiers, co-chaired by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry, Kheireddine Ben Aissa, and the Deputy Minister of Construction of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Nguyen Tung Van. This session is held at the level of five working groups bringing together experts from the two countries representing several ministerial sectors, institutions and organizations. It concerns the evaluation of the state of cooperation between Algeria and Vietnam, and the evaluation of the implementation of the recommendations of the 12th session held in October 2023 in Hanoi, with a view to charting new directions for the bilateral partnership. It is also about ways to strengthen the legal framework and support future cooperation programs.
The work takes place in the presence of the Vietnamese Ambassador to Algeria, Tran Quoc Khanh, the Algerian Ambassador to Vietnam, Azzeddine Bechka, as well as the Director General of the Asia and Oceania region at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Abdelmalek Bouhedou. Also participating in this meeting are experts from the Ministries of Industry, Pharmaceutical Industry, Trade, Finance, as well as the Ministries of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Energy and Renewable Energies, Environment and Quality of Life, Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Hydraulics, Interior, Local Authorities and Transport, Housing, Town Planning, the city and land use planning.
Also represented: the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (Aapi), the Algerian Council for Economic Renewal (Crea), as well as the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Caci).
Several agreements currently being finalized and various initiatives will be materialized soon, notably during the official visits of senior Vietnamese officials and business leaders expected in Algeria starting this week, according to the Vietnamese ambassador to Algiers, Tran Quoc Khanh who spoke on the eve of this session reported “encouraging signs” and several actions which “will soon materialize” and “will further consolidate cooperation between the two countries in the months to come. come”.
The other highlight of the bilateral program will be the visit to Algeria by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, scheduled for November 18 to 20. He will be accompanied by a large ministerial delegation and around twenty business leaders. This is the first visit by a Vietnamese Prime Minister to Algeria since 2015, a visit which is of “particular importance” for the two countries, which maintain “exceptional political relations”, and which aims to give “a new dynamic to economic cooperation”, according to the ambassador.
This visit will be marked by several activities, including the inauguration of a commemorative stele dedicated to former Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh in Algiers (Rais Hamidou), in homage to the founder of modern Vietnam who had maintained historical ties with Algeria. The development of economic and commercial relations will constitute a major focus of this visit, with the holding of a business forum co-chaired by the two Prime Ministers. The discussions will focus on economic cooperation, trade and investment, with the aim of establishing “more substantial” cooperation and creating a more favorable environment for economic operators.
According to the ambassador, the two countries have significant potential in several sectors, notably agriculture, the agri-food industry, renewable energies, hydrocarbons, the pharmaceutical industry, digital technology as well as services (tourism and transport). The Deputy Minister of Construction of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Nguyen Tuong Van, arrived, Saturday morning, at the Algiers Houari-Boumediene International Airport, where he was welcomed, as well as the delegation accompanying him, by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry, Khireddine Benaissa.
