Strengthen the financing climate for start-ups.
The fourth edition of the African Start-up Conference, scheduled for December 6 to 8 in Algiers, promises to be a strategic meeting for investment and innovation in Africa. The event will highlight the new Algerian legislative framework, now adapted to welcoming international investment funds, and aims to strengthen the financing climate for start-ups in the country.
The Minister of the Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Micro-enterprises, Noureddine Ouadah, underlined on Thursday that this edition will be “special” thanks to the strong support of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune. According to him, it will offer a showcase of Algerian leadership in terms of innovation, creation of start-ups and cutting-edge technologies on the African continent.
Ouadah specified, during his appearance on National Radio, that this conference will serve as a platform for exchanges between international investors and African start-ups, promoting the mobilization of foreign capital and the highlighting of new regulatory mechanisms facilitating the establishment of funds in Algeria.
Placed under the sign of African cooperation, this edition will welcome nearly 200 start-ups, with Rwanda as guest of honor, said the minister, adding that it is part of the dynamic of the success of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) 2025, organized in Algiers last September. The African Start-up Conference thus confirms Algeria’s growing role in the organization of major economic and technological events on the continent, according to Mr. Ouadah.
Participants will have the opportunity to present their projects, exchange their expertise and build partnerships around the themes of financing, skills transfer and sustainable development.
Among the flagship activities, there is a meeting dedicated to the creation of African investment funds, a forum bringing together donors and asset managers, as well as a “Deal Room” allowing investors and entrepreneurs to organize digital meetings to concretize investment agreements, Mr. Ouadah said.
The minister also stressed that this conference will highlight African models of success, demonstrating how simple ideas can evolve into successful start-ups or technological empires.
Addressing the national innovation strategy, he indicated that his department is working to create sustainable start-ups, supported by an incentive legal and tax framework. He expressed confidence in achieving the presidential objective of 20,000 start-ups created before the planned deadlines.
Concerning the development of artificial intelligence in Algeria, the minister announced the establishment of a national scientific council, responsible for developing a strategy aligned with the cultural and civilizational specificities of the country. The objective, he affirmed, is to build a sovereign Algerian artificial intelligence, based on a solid technological infrastructure and at the service of national development.
In addition, Mr. Ouadah revealed that more than 50,000 people have obtained the self-entrepreneur card since its launch in January 2024, believing that this represents a strong indicator of the vitality of the Algerian entrepreneurial ecosystem.
