DEVELOPING: President Donald J. Trump says he has ordered the U.S. Navy to engage and destroy any vessels attempting to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

He added that U.S. mine-clearing operations are already underway, with naval sweepers actively working to secure the waterway.

According to Trump, mine-clearing efforts have been intensified, now operating at roughly three times their previous level.
